Contributing to Your Success
By Doing What We Do Best

At Practical Precision, we help companies whose products depend on precision motion or precision optics for success to achieve breakthrough-levels of performance in the medical device, biotech/life science, and advanced manufacturing industries.

That exclusive focus has allowed us to develop highly-relevant experience and deep expertise solving precision engineering challenges within the regulatory constraints and market demands of these industries. Coupled with advanced analysis and modeling techniques, this enables us to achieve those results quickly and cost-effectively, avoiding wasteful build-it-and-see iterations.

Our consulting relationships begin with a free, 30-minute Discovery Call. It’s a high level discussion that doesn’t involve any confidential or proprietary information.

About Our Start

Rob CampbellHello, I’m Rob Campbell, the founder of Practical Precision, where we love to design things that move and see.

I remember the first time, as a young engineer, that I held in my hands parts that I had designed; physical, precisely manufactured things that wouldn’t have existed without me. Nearly thirty years later, I still consider it a privilege to make my living at such a creative endeavor.

Since that very first job, I’ve worked with and learned from some amazing colleagues and teams, developing innovative products for biotech/life science; therapeutic and diagnostic medicine; aerospace and defense; additive manufacturing; semiconductor manufacturing; and material processing. As diverse as those markets and industries are, the products all shared one thing in common: Precision motion, optics, or both were at the heart of what they did, the life saving treatment or diagnosis that patients received, the microscopic genes they sequenced, the distant objects they resolved, the value their customers paid for.

Nearly thirty years later, I still consider it a privilege to make my living at such a creative endeavor.

I was fortunate that that first job also introduced me to the practice of concurrent engineering and manufacturing development as well as the field of precision engineering. It wasn’t until years later that I learned of the supposed antagonistic relationship between engineering and manufacturing. But by that time, I had already experienced the benefits of collaborative development involving stakeholders all along the value chain (inside or outside of the organization), and worked to promote them wherever I was.

I started Practical Precision to promote and advance the field of precision engineering, in the service of as many people and organizations as possible. We do this by sharing our expertise and lessons with new and experienced engineers through articles and training; providing design resources; and working directly with organizations to solve challenging problems in precision machine design, optomechanical engineering, and other precision engineering applications. Our dynamic team includes members who have worked with each over for over twenty years, going back to that job where I first held parts that I had designed.

If you’d like to work with us or learn more, we’d love to talk. All of our consulting engagements begin with a free, 30-minute Discovery Call. It’s a high level discussion that doesn’t involve any confidential or proprietary information.
